HVW8 x Charlie Ahearn: True History

Would you believe that it's been 25 yrs?
In 1983, producer and director Charles Ahearn finally brought to screen what was to become one of the most if not the most influential film in hip hop. Wild Style was the 1st film of it's kind: the depiction of a free form movement of art, dance, music and culture. Hip Hop.

Purveyors and proponents of fine print art HVW8 have hooked up with Charlie Ahearn himself to release a series of tees which will pay homage to his work in Wild Style. They will pull stills from a massive cache of images and transfer them to tees in this collaborative endeavor. The first of many has just dropped @ the HVW8 Hollywood gallery:

Make sure to visit HVW8 to get your own. Shouts to my man Ty G & Max all day. And PLS try not to backspin in it. ;). So how could I not take you out with an original break?? Enjoy.

My man Ty G from HVW8 sends me this yesterday. Dude is homeless, would you believe??

This was right as her was preparing the new podcast. Shouts to Max and Ty G!

SPR HVW8

ARGH.

Fresh off the hwy. Been a crazy week, but always got time for my ppls.

For a min, my man Ty G and I have rapped about getting HVW8 back in Toronto. He being in lax, and I in yyz and our schedules being all over, things were a little harder to coordinate.

But the good ppl @ RedBull Canada made it happen. They launched the 381 Projects which is meant to be an periodic art show with the launch having taken place during Contact Photo.

A fresh night indeed. Live work by HVW8 and an amazing live band called Torngat. I had to pull some RedBull ppl aside and give them a full thumbs up on that selection.

In any case, love to see ppl come out for some good art and music. Shouts to my man P107 who secretly was shooting all this time I knew him. WTF?!?! Did not know my dude.

The exhibit is still up and running, and you can get all deets @ 381 Projects dot com. Say wrd.

OK. Back to work. More shots here

MIMA all day...

Shouts to my man Ty G who's got a dope podcast running. Been there from jump and it's only getting tighter.
A few months back, I wrote about a landmark edition of his podcast (vol 17 I believe) where newest citizen de la ciudad, The Deacon of Detroit (he recently expressed his love for that moniker) was guest for what would be a scintillating set - one that had the in-ter-net going nuts (what ever happened to Paul Wall anyway??). Cats were stepping to me about "Dude, did you hear the new House Shoes mixtape??". ;)
So today I got a text from my man Shoes saying that the new podcast was up. So I left the cotton fields and raced home since I moved all my music to an external now. 1nce home, I logged on, clicked and just watched the data move....

DJ House Shoes is back @ it again, with a new set for the 4th volume of the newly re-baptized HVW8 podcast, MiMA - Music is My Art.

As usual, Shoes slipped in some bangers - the type that will make you wanna punch your girl in her stomach (verbatim): some unreleased Guilty, some Paul White (WOWSERS), and some of his own joints as he had last time. Say wrd.
Well, you cats make sure to get up on this one. Ty G's been working hard to make this a quality podcast featuring some great ppl as guests... I'm just waiting in line for my shot! Ty, put ya man on!
In any case, I suggest that you make it happen - subscribe to it via iTunes, or just hit the site where you can download it in it's entirety.

Just a few more days until the big show.... HOUSE SHOES!

Hizzla.

To LAX with Love: Top Shoppin

So indeed, LA was the site of some needed time to decompress. After getting over the rush @ the BUF Airport (which i will still endorse despite the recent influx of Canadian passengers), I was able to make my way to LA - notwithstanding a massive layover in Philadelphia.
Although I had planned to not shop @ all, I was unable to resist the nectars of the shopping fruits. So, I picked up a few things. Well, I was also showered w/ some love:
Shouts to my man Nick Diamond who had not seen inna hot min. After surprising him @ his Diamond Supply Co shop on Fairfax, he immediately blessed me with the Diamond Life tee in both colors as well as the Diamond x DVS joints w/ the tee to match. DAMN.

Por Vida dude. for real.
I then walked over to see my mellow, my man Ty G from HVW8 who I had not seen in like a min as well, possibly since Feb of 07 @ Magic. Anyhow, after buying a sought after DVD, he then blessed me w/ some goodies as well: Some sick tees including a HVW8 x Parra and a lim ed 45. Good Look dude.
I then made my way over to Melrose simply to catch up w/ Marc.
I had been clowned for having a real elastic for a wallet, so I made some changes.

Never had great luck w/ wallets. Lost my last 2 including this fresh Paul Frank one... I like this one though.
After visiting Union to say peace to my man, made my way down to American Rag. Sh*t. I got sucked in. After trying them on, I had to buy some Nudies - Thin Finn no doubt. Again, my last pair were the Slim Jim Tubes and they had served me very well. Was due for a new pair. I must say, these fit me kinda sweet TR Gunna.
I had to exercise restraint as the woes of the US dollar were just way too tempting. On top of that, I had plenty more to do out in LAX....
