Regardless, Shepard Fairey is on fire. After a full year+ of media coverage for a campaign image that has gone down in history and historical archives, he's @ it again. Albeit, in much smaller scale - bordering on minuscule in comparison, but none less meaningful.
He and B+ have teamed up for Ma Dukes as well.
Shepard has taken what can be described as a classic shot of Dilla by B+, and put it through his signature transformations. What has resulted is the following:

Stones Throw & J-Rocc has been responsible for one of the more celebrated mixtapes. The Dilla Trilogia. A triple disc set of of the Jay Dee aka J Dilla catalog mixed by the Funkiest President himself J-Rocc of Beat Junkies fame.
With the release of Act 3 this week, many Stones Throw fans and Dilla fanatics have been inquiring about Acts 1 + 2.
It's all about love, no??
So it seems that the ST heads are contemplating a re-release of the archived Acts. With that being said, pls keep your eyes peeled and dialed in to Stones Throw for more announcements.

Some of us have been in high anticipation of the new mixtape in the Thank You Jay Dee series. So here it is!
February is Dilla Month, it's plain to see. So for you, J-Rocc presents the last of the Trilogy:
Tonight, your man Mighty Mos plays host to a night of knights. On this MLK day, he pays tribute to one of the greatest that has ever lived. Certainly he will honor the great Martin Luther King, but tonight he will accompany a symphony and pay homage to Pay Jay aka Dilla Dawg aka J Dilla.
Tough I'm not oft in favor of Big Band backing hip hop, I give Mos the green light on this one. He's actually one of the few who can pull this off. Regardless, the University of Michigan's UMS will host tonight's event and will be the only such date as there's no scheduled tour. Seen.
As we listen to bright brass w/ Mos, we keep it ghe-tto with the plastic cups, and toast.

Man, I knew I was going to have a great day. I slept well this weekend, had a great breakfast and was starting to plan things in my head - great things. I've been in touch with House Shoes since last fall trying to set things up for February's Dilla month in Toronto. But I knew there were rumblings of something bigger to take place.... An they were confirmed today in an email:
Stones Throw is bringing the Chitown bi-monthly to Toronto: MOVE.
I had been trying to get down to that night in the Chi for a min (I like heading down there + I have yet to go to Sonotech), but as of today, it has officially made it's move to Toronto.
On deck will be: Egon, J-Rocc & Madlib. We dearly missed J-Rocc @ The Dec 1st tour stop. But, we'll have him in the best environment. Add Madlib, and Egon? If that were not crazy enough, it might get even crazier. Why you ask??
★ February is Dilla Month ★.
The Stones Throw massive will make certain that the man's legacy carries onwards. For anyone who recalls the April 2007 event @ Revival, you know that this one will be just as bananas.

My man Ty G has been burning up putting out a sick podcast. He just started it recently and has had some heavyweight (pun intended) cats come thru: Daz-I-Kue, Black Spade and a few others. Most recently, vol.17 was touched by the newest LA resident but forever Detroit rider DJ House Shoes.
This Michigan magistrate has been down with the D before cats knew what was happening. Having seen the Dilla movement from it's infancy, he forever carries the torch and spreads that Detroit doctorine @ each able opportunity.

I've always respected the label, music and artists, but in more recent years, I have grown to love all about them [read the operation]: the business model, their artwork, simplicity of their site design and philosophy. Let alone Dilla moved there to LA to be with them, and that they house some of the more interesting artsists around right now (Madlib, Guilty Simpson, and employ one too).
They are usually pretty quick to embrace technology and changes in the fan's daily routine - gawd knows we're all over the place: Youtube, Myspace etc...
As such, they have a podcast that I subscribe to, as all iPod/computer owners/fans of indie labels should.
They're more recent one was just one simple track.
