More Tools of the Tirade: Nixon Watches

So my man hits me a few days ago w/ a txt like: "What's the name of the watches you mess w/ again?"

Nixon my dude. Nixon all day.

How could you not rock a hot time piece? A nice one can compliment your outfit so well. So shocked I was when I read this piece in the Globe & Mail some time ago. They went on to say that the watch was a dying accessory and that more and more ppl were using their cells to tell the time.

Wowsers. Using my Nokia all day for time? I do from time to time... But ma montre! Considering that Nokia started as a tire and rubber company, maybe timepieces are not out of reach and in the not so distant future....

Hmmmm. I'll stay with the watch thanks.

In fact, I was thinking of adorning my wrists with some more of Nixon's fine accoutrements. But, for those who didn't know, they make what I personally think are some of the freshest (if not the freshest) watches around - Period. Again, my connection w/ SoCal deepens all the time.

Been watching them (ummm, yea) for a min, and I still recall when I finally dipped in.

My 1st Nixon was the Rocker (you can never forget su primera). This was where I was @ when I bought it: listening to tons of Maiden. Still love it, though I now favor butterfly clasps.

Then, I proverbially went nuts. I followed that up wth:

A Gold Ticket. Stunning. Mine has the burgundy face though.

2 Players: Silver and most recently a Black one. The Player is way too classic. And the Black one emerged from the amazing All Black collection. I equate ownership of a player as quasi rite of passage...

2 Rotologs: The Original Walnut (which sent the whole world in a spin), and then the White one. The original was part of a Mos Def campaign for Nixon that they shot in Toronto being that he was here. Would you believe that I even had drinks with the man responsible for the Roto's design? Nutz. Shouts to Luis C for hooking that up.

My latest purchase was the Esquire CS.

I have a few nore in my site. I don't think my collection could be complete w/o a Gold Player.

This is the original killer. In fact, it was re-released prolly due to incessant requests. Good move Nixon. And yes, that is a real diamond. Before the re-release, I was trying to buy my boy's OG one. Then he left it @ some chick's place one night. Ahhh PHILLY you idiot!

I also want to get my hands on some pieces from the Elite Collection, and notably (you guessed it): The Ceramic Player.

Swiss movement w/ an all white ceramic casing and a lone red ruby bezel. Bananas.

Where I buy mine? Ransom Holding - on top of GoodFoot. Ask for Martin. He'll show you the truth. Hell, he might even show you his. I think he wears a SuperHero SS.

Excess Access: Tools Pt3

In some of my previous posts, the extolment of accessories has been very black on white (or light grey on black here). I will forever consider them key in completing habiliments. But who said that accessories are only for a get up?? Many of you know that I have more recently, and with much melancholy, moved from QB. So I now have had a place of my own to embellish and bedeck - 2 floors.
I've had a little while to get things done, but I've sat back and done absolutely nothing. In some part due to a now postponed move, but mostly due to indecision and some apathy. I will let you in on my theme though: Wi-Fi & Wood. Or, Tech & Teak. A smooth amalgam of new technology and ageless design. Regardless, I have slowly amassed assembly parts for this amelioration and will start to document some of these upgrades. Beyoncé, I'm listening (She is kinda hot). So, would you know that I snagged my inaugural item: simple floor mat. They just came in and could not help but take one home w/ me:

I was looking @ a few floor mats previously and will still get them, but how could I not start it all off with something like this??

I more recently wanted to also get back to a digital display based timepiece, and after getting an email from my man BeeDub @ Nixon, I trotted over by the dwntwn showroom to browse thru some samples. Bam. Nixon Connect.


Been keeping an eye open out for this one for a minute. I even went looking as we opened the cabinet up. After rawking analog watches for so long, this digital readout's been a fresh change. Butterfly clasp as always, 37 time zones and some good old fashion electroluminescence aka Indiglo. I find digitals to have this interesting strictness and discipline about them. Such irony that I would own one. I may have it on for kicks this weekend. See you Friday @ 22h30.

G-Shocked: Casio is the new New Era

I still recall going through LRG catalogs and seeing the not so subtle placement of the classic G-Shock on every model's wrist. Not mad. Word was that the 60+ yr old company was pumped that the 20 something G-Shock was back in vogue. I actually have an OG Baby-G @ the crib.
But might this excitement have turned to say... irrational exuberance? Maybe taking a page from New Era Caps, they have gone on a collaborative campaign that is making even New Era blush.
























I guess that's how you go about penetrating the market. I just hope they don't go bare back.
As most of you know, I've been partial and still remain faithful to Nixon. Been on them and will remain, with some new models in my sights, I'm pumped about SP09.

PRPL PSHN

No no no... Not Purple Passion, but PRPL PSHN.



Sometime this past year. I was telling my clients that they could easily sell some purple dnm. But then again, I had a passion for the pretty hue for a min. Used to rock a prpl back pack, polartec and goretex shell. Sh*t.

So when I saw these, I was sold pon di spot. White on white kicks with the same tee? Long side a gold Nixon Ticket with a purple face? All love.

Tools of the Tirade aka The Get Right.

Just assembling the gear for the night. Hitting that GDFT x Nike party feat. Clark Kent & Scratch @ The Drake. Should be aiiight. So here's the deal. I have always been one for getting your gear right. But I urge, don't forget the accessories. All day long. They add that je ne sais quoi to your outfit. So, I'll let you in on some of my accoutrements. Yep. Secrets revealed.
Tonight?? I'll likely be using the following:

Nokia 8801. I have spoken about this phone in the past. All about it. Candy bar form factor with a smooth slide design that will reveal jet black keys. Stainless steel case makes this one timeless. Will be just as hot 2 yrs from now. And, don't be fooled: it's surprisingly small. It will fit in your coin pocket. Got this on a trade for a Pink RAZR. Guess who came out on top?
Nixon Player. Pshhhhh. Does it get any more classic? Offered in a variety of finishes, I'll be using my stainless steel one with the (yes) real diamond bezel. Love it. Got it @ Ransom on Richmond St West.
Lastly, l'eau de toilette. So crucial. I mean, not having the right cologne is like having a Alexandre McQueen suit and Payless shoes. SO, many have wondered about this one. Well, for the last year and change, Comme Des Garçons 2 has been that scent heaven sent. Drives them bananas. The mirrored glass bottle is hella tight. This one is a little harder to get as it has been discontinued apparently. But, I overheard that Nomad on Richmond West still has some left. Do your due dilligence.
